Medical Equipment Repair
Squeaky Wheels is TDN’s medical equipment repair program that helps people with disabilities get their durable medical
at no cost!
How it works
We will provide simple repairs for adaptive and medical equipment such as walkers, canes and manual/electric wheelchairs. Utilizing volunteers, individuals can set up a time to have their equipment looked at and/or dropped off. Loaner equipment will be available for repairs that may take more time.
For persons who are in temporary need of equipment, TDN will offer equipment for loan at free or greatly reduced cost. We will accept donations of used and broken equipment. Volunteers will work to fix and clean donated equipment to prepare it for loan. In some cases, the equipment is unrepairable and will be disassembled for use of parts which will result in extreme cost savings for provision of repairs.
As an educational component, TDN will utilize individualized training for youth with disabilities (ages 14-26) to prepare them for the workforce. Youth participants will work on cleaning equipment, salvaging parts, identifying and organizing parts for later use. Youth will be provided with valuable pre-employment skills of working with tools that can transfer to internships and employment. In order to begin this program, we need a few dedicated volunteers who are good with their hands and have some knowledge of tools. In addition, we need to purchase some basic tools and supplies.
We have just $1000 of unmet need from our current funding sources to get this program rolling.
