bathroom conversions in Genesee County with the exception of Flushing,

Qualifications: Must own your
home for at least one year, taxes and mortgage must be current, and
household income limits fall within the following areas: 1 person $32,350;
2 person $36,950; 3 person $41,550; 4 person $46,150. Restrictions: No
mobile home parks.
Payment: lf applicant is a senior, 100% of the debt
is forgiven in five years. if applicant is under the age of 62, a
percentage of the debt (up to 50%) must be paid back within a 2O year
period; however, no interest or payments are required in those 20 years.

grants for seniors 52+ to provide ramps or home modifications that are
related to the health and safety of the applicant. Household income limits
for the grant must fall within the following areas: 1 person $20,500; 2
person $23,400; 3 person $26,350; 4 person $29,250. Also, provides 20-year
loans for applicants under the age of 67 for ramps and home modifications.
Household income limits for the grant must fall within the following
areas: 1 person $32,750; 2 person $37,450; 3 person $42,100; 4 Person
S46,800.
Restrictions: Grants not
available for the following areas: Flint, Flint Township, Burton, and the
city of Grand Blanc.
Payment: Grants - no repayment; Loans -

Service Organizations
Many service organizations will provide
help with ramp installation on a limited basis. Consider contacting your
local Kiwanis, Lions, Jaycees, Knights of Columbus. Contact city hall or

service groups in your area.

TIP: Always make sure the terms of the
sale such as warranties, refunds and shipping and handling policies are
clearly stated in writing. Once you receive the item inspect it
immediately any problems with the item should be reported to the company
and put in writing. When shopping on the internet be cautious. If you are
not satisfied how the company is dealt with the problems contact the
Better Business Bureau or the States Attorney Generals Office.
Consider hiring an Certified Aging in
Place Specialist ( CAPS) to modify your home and address solutions to
common barriers. CAPS are trained on the unique needs of older adults and
home home modifications can enable older adults continue to live

Basic Specifications For Handicap
Ramps
-
The maximum slope of the ramp is one inch
of rise for each linear foot of run.
-
The minimum clear inside width of the
ramp between quad rails is 36 inches
-
The maximum rise for any given ramp
segment is 30 inches. Once elevation is at 30 inches, a flat platform
must be added before incline can begin again.
-
Flat landings must be at the top and the
bottom of all ramps.
-
Landings should be as wide as the ramp
and a minimum of 60 inches in length.
-
Handrails must be on each side of the
ramp. The top handrails must be at least 30 inches above the ramp and no
more than 38 inches above the ramp vertically.
-
Attach a non-slip coating to ensure ramp
surface does not become slippery when wet.
